What is TANICUSHION®?

TANICUSHION® is a cushion that faithfully recreates the shape of a succulent or cactus — a way to bring greenery indoors. It was launched in 2015 by plants director Mikiko Kamada. Each design is based on a photograph of a real plant and sewn to follow its natural silhouette. We also make OHANACUSHION®, a flower collection.

Where and how are they made?

Every step — cutting, sewing, stuffing and embroidery — is done by hand, one piece at a time, by artisans in Japan. Because each piece is handmade and follows the plant's natural shape, size and shape vary slightly.

How big are the cushions?

Cushions are approx. 40–53 cm in diameter and 18–20 cm thick, depending on the design. See the Details section on each product page.

Why does each product show a scientific name?

We label every piece with the plant's scientific and Japanese names, hoping the cushion will spark curiosity about the real plant.

How much is shipping?

Flat ¥700 within Japan (excluding some remote islands) and a flat ¥3,000 for international orders. Iwai-bana celebration stands are a flat ¥1,000 (Tokyo's 23 wards only).

When will my order arrive?

We ship within 5 days of payment confirmation. Domestic orders are shipped by Sagawa Express; international orders by DHL or EMS.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship worldwide from Japan for a flat ¥3,000. You can switch the store to English using the language selector at the bottom right of the page.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Credit cards, PayPal, Amazon Pay and other methods shown at checkout.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes. Add a gift wrapping item (Clear, celebratory 'IWAI', etc.) to your cart together with your cushion — one wrapping per item.

Can I send one as a celebration flower stand?

Yes. Our Iwai-bana celebration stands combine TANICUSHION and OHANACUSHION cushions and are delivered and installed within Tokyo's 23 wards (the stand is collected afterwards). They never wilt and can be used long after the celebration.

How should I clean my cushion?

We recommend taking it to a professional dry cleaner. If you wash it at home, please hand-wash it as follows.

1. Fill a basin with water and mix in a mild detergent for delicates. Place the cushion in a large laundry net, submerge it, and gently press-wash it about 20 times, keeping it flat rather than folding it.
2. Change the water and rinse thoroughly until no more dirt or suds come out — thorough rinsing is the key. For an extra-soft finish, add fabric softener at this stage.
3. Press out the water by hand, then sandwich the cushion between large dry bath towels to absorb the moisture.
4. Do not hang it up. Lay it flat in the shade and let it dry slowly over 2–3 days.

Can I return or exchange an item?

We cannot accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If your item is defective, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will cover the shipping costs.

Can businesses order in bulk?

Yes. We offer a complete set of all eight TANICUSHION designs, and we welcome larger or corporate orders — please get in touch via our contact page.
