Agave potatorum 'Kisshokan' — Succulent Cushion | TANICUSHION

Native to Mexico, Agave potatorum ('Kisshokan' in Japanese) is a collector favourite, with broad leaves edged in wavy teeth. Its compact size makes it easy to place on a sofa or armchair.

TANICUSHION® was created in 2015 by Mikiko Kamada, a plants director with a graduate background in plant science, as a way to bring greenery indoors. Each design starts with a photograph of a real succulent — from her own collection or from wild habitats in places like Mexico and Arizona — and is sewn to follow the plant's natural silhouette rather than a square or round pillow shape. Now you can finally hug a spiky succulent. No watering, no sunlight needed.

Craftsmanship

• Handmade in Japan, one by one. Cutting, sewing, stuffing and embroidery are all done by hand in Japan, led by an artisan born into a long-established futon-making family who honed their skills at top fashion houses in Japan.
• Made to be hugged. Materials are chosen for skin contact — to rest your head on or bury your face in — and generously filled for a full, plant-like volume.
• Botanically labeled. Every piece comes with the plant's scientific and Japanese names, as an invitation to discover the real plant.
